Check your institution's own rules.Universities and boards use different grade points and different CGPA-to-percentage formulas. This calculator does not apply any official formula for you. Use the one your institution publishes, and treat the result here as an estimate.

How to use the GPA and CGPA calculator

  1. Choose your grading scale (4.0, 5.0 or 10-point).
  2. For each course, enter the credit hours and the grade points you received. The course name is optional.
  3. Your semester GPA updates as you type. Use Add course for more rows.
  4. To update your CGPA, enter your current CGPA and the credit hours you had already completed.
  5. To get a percentage, pick a formula. If your university gives a formula such as “CGPA × 9.5”, choose My own formula and enter its numbers.

The formulas

GPA = sum of (credit hours × grade points) ÷ total credit hours. The top part is called the quality points.

New CGPA = (current CGPA × credit hours completed + semester GPA × semester credit hours) ÷ all credit hours.

Proportional percentage = CGPA ÷ scale × 100. On a 4.0 scale this is the same as CGPA × 25, so a CGPA of 3.2 gives 80%. Many institutions use a different conversion, so always check.

Worked example

Three courses on a 4.0 scale

Course A: 3 credit hours, 4.0 points. Course B: 3 credit hours, 3.33 points. Course C: 2 credit hours, 2.67 points. Quality points = 12 + 9.99 + 5.34 = 27.33. GPA = 27.33 ÷ 8 = 3.42.

Questions and answers

Where do I find my grade points?
Your result card, transcript or student portal lists the grade points for each letter grade. Grade point tables differ between universities, so this tool asks for the points rather than the letter.
Is CGPA × 25 the official formula?
Not necessarily. It is simply the proportional conversion on a 4.0 scale. Your university, board or employer may require a different formula. Use My own formula to apply theirs.
Are my grades saved?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is stored or uploaded. Reloading the page clears the form.
