What each case does
- UPPERCASE makes every letter a capital. Useful for short labels, never for whole paragraphs.
- lowercase removes all capitals. A quick first step when text was typed with Caps Lock on.
- Title Case capitalises the main words, which suits essay titles and headings. Short words such as of, the and and stay lowercase unless they come first, come last or follow a colon.
- Sentence case capitalises only the first letter of each sentence and each line, which is the normal style for body text.
Worked examples
An essay title
the causes of the FIRST world war: an overview
Title Case (both options on):
The Causes of the FIRST World War: An Overview
Sentence case:
The causes of the first world war: an overview
Notice that Sentence case turns FIRST into first and does not capitalise World War. Names and proper nouns need a quick manual check.
Accented letters
ÉCOLE ET ÇA VA. PRÊT?
Sentence case:
École et ça va. Prêt?
Accented letters such as É, Ç and Ê convert correctly.
Questions and answers
- Does it work with Urdu or Arabic text?
- Urdu, Arabic, Chinese and many other scripts have no capital letters, so the converter leaves them as they are. Any English or other Latin-script words mixed in are still converted.
- Which title case style does it follow?
- It follows a simple common style: capitalise every word except short articles, conjunctions and prepositions in the middle of a title. Style guides such as APA, MLA and Chicago differ in the details, so check your guide for formal work.
- Why did a name lose its capital letter?
- Lowercase and Sentence case cannot tell names from ordinary words. After converting, fix names, places and abbreviations by hand.
- Is my text sent anywhere?
- No. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
