How to use the percentage calculator
- Enter the marks you obtained and the total marks. The percentage appears straight away.
- To find an overall result, add each subject's marks and total in Total of several subjects.
- To plan ahead, enter a target percentage and the total marks to see how many marks you need.
- To see progress, compare an earlier and a later percentage.
The formulas
Percentage = marks obtained ÷ total marks × 100.
Marks needed = target percentage ÷ 100 × total marks. Round up, because a mark short of the target is not enough.
Difference is the later result minus the earlier one, in percentage points. Relative change = difference ÷ earlier result × 100.
Worked examples
Board exam result
You scored 942 out of 1,100. Percentage = 942 ÷ 1,100 × 100 = 85.64%.
Progress between two tests
Your score went from 60% to 75%. That is 15 percentage points higher, and a 25% relative improvement.
Questions and answers
- Why are percentage points different from percent change?
- Percentage points are a simple subtraction (75 − 60 = 15 points). Percent change compares the difference with where you started (15 ÷ 60 = 25%).
- Can I enter half marks?
- Yes. Decimals such as 47.5 work in every box.
- Is anything saved or uploaded?
- No. The calculations happen in your browser. Nothing is stored or sent anywhere.
